Okay, so here's a new one... it kind of goes along with Alan May's Village Idiot Posting.
A Realtor in our office, a woman, held an open house on her listing. All went well and quite a few people went through. The next day, she received a call from one of the neighbors (you know, the people who go through the open house to lookie-loo) and the neighbor was deeply concerned.
Apparently there were some men (I was going to say gentlemen, but, ya RIGHT!) at the house with a truck like a Uhaul type truck. The men had piled all the belongings of the sellers in the living room and were getting ready to load them into the truck.
NOW STOP RIGHT HERE! Panicked and all, wouldn't you call the police and ask them to meet you at the house? After all, they could get there faster and safer than you as an agent, right?
The agent here was so bent on stopping the robbery, SHE raced right over to the house, and saw the truck pulling out of the neighborhood. She jumped out of her car in the driveway, opening the door with her keys and running in, leaving her keys in the door. All of the sellers posessions were there in a huge pile. (Apparently the neighbor said he had called someone and the guys left.) She ran around the house making sure nobody was still there.
While she ran around the house, you guessed it, they came back, grabbed her keys and stole her car, complete with laptop, Ipad and her wallet. Goodness, I would have totally been crazed.
To my knowledge, this is becoming a pattern of crime in our area.
But the MORAL OF THE STORY is call the police! Don't go by yourself! This could have been much, much worse. Any number of things could have happened to her. She is extremely lucky that the only thing that happened was the theft of her belongings. And no, she is NOT blonde!
So please, in this crazy economy, be safe, be smart. Call yourself or don't go by yourself!
