It was about calling attention to the need for tort reform and an ending to all these crazy lawsuits that are clogging up the court system and also killing good jobs. So what brings about this blog is the fact that my broker has been called into a long trial which is completely frivolous. I understand that the economy is really bad, but it seems the our need to "Get Rich Quick" is causing People to enter into things they know aren't right just trying to get more of the almighty dollar.
These types of lawsuits aren't new. I remember doing some stunts to bring attention to the one where the girls sued a fast food restaurant because the food was too good so they couldn't stop eating it and became fat. Really, that made it to court? So I bought some cheeseburgers and handed them out on the courthouse steps as a publicity stunt to draw attention.
I'm not saying that there aren't legitiment cases that have to be tried. I'm saying that these clog up the court calendars, waste the peoples time and money and affect jobs.
Finally, the powers that be have started to address TORT REFORM. It has been talked about in political circles for years. The problem there is that the Trial Lawyers Association has DEEP POCKETS and donate quite a bit to our political campaigns so the politicians have to be careful where trying to "reform" the system. After all, they wouldn't want to offend their contributors!
It is now affecting Real Estate in a big way. There are more lawsuits than ever and most of them are simpy stupid. So it's time we take a stand and help with the reform. That's all I'm saying... stand up and be counted!
